About

Allan Pedersen is an independent researcher in monetary economics and the history of central banking. His current programme asks how the codified rules of a monetary settlement shape what supervisors can see — from Competition and Credit Control in 1971 to today’s stablecoin perimeter — and what “moneyness” means when private money is issued outside the banking system. Six working papers appear in the Philosophers Mint Working Papers series (RePEc:pmt:wpaper); two were published by SUERF – The European Money and Finance Forum as Policy Notes No. 411 and No. 413. He is also the author of The Price of Thinking (2026; DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20686703), the AI story explained with the tools of a first economics course, free to read online.

He trained as an economist at the University of Aarhus (cand.oecon.) and at Harvard Business School (MBA), and spent thirty years in regulated financial services, private equity and digital-asset infrastructure — most recently as founder of an EU-regulated stablecoin issuer — before turning to research. His investment and venture activities are at Aros Capital. Disclosure: he holds commercial interests in the digital-asset sector; individual papers carry specific disclosures where relevant.

Notes and essays

The Writing section is the counterpart to the papers: the pieces are shorter, the citations looser, and the arguments are allowed to be wrong — notes from work in progress, reading reactions, and the occasional longer essay when something has been bothering me for a while.

If you want to get in touch, the best way is by email. I read everything; I reply to most things, eventually.
